June 12th 2004 / June 12th 2005 Even if on June 11th
Europe played in a small festival in Hamar (Norway), the true international
Europe reunion on stage has been on June 12th. Well,
it has already passed a year from the big performance at Sweden Rock Festival
of our 5 Swedish heroes, again on a big stage. In the audience more than
25.000 persons. After 12 years of wait, finally the dream of all the fans was
coming true. Unfortunately I have not
been able to assist live at the first exhibition that marked the return of
Europe on the musical scene of the hard rock, but as many others fans I have
listened to it in directed to the Swedish radio, from web pages. A little before that our
Europe began to play, there was the first emotion of the evening: the
audience shouted their name! I guarantee to you that, after 12 years, to hear
people to scream "EUROPE EUROPE EUROPE..." is a real, an incredible
emotion...... and if it has been for me, we can image what must have feel our
guys! Ok, the show is starting
just now… Europe open with Seven
Doors Hotel and from the first notes of the intro, the audience goes crazy
with joy! A new great emotion when Joey begins to sing: "Fourhundred
years back in this Time... Seven Doors Hotel..." . I was going to move! The voice of Joey has
been, as usual, at the top (initially a little bit moved... but this is
perfectly explicable!) and also John & John, Ian and Mic has been
impeccable, like they usual! More I listened to the concert on the radio, and
more I regreted that I wasn’t there, in the crowd, to enjoy with the other
fans. That time I proposed that, if Europe will come in Italy for a concert,
I’ll sure be there... (in fact on 4
November 2004, I was at Alcatraz in Milan, for their only concert in Italy of
the 2004!) The day before the
concert at Sweden Rock Festival, Europe had played in Hamar, in Norway, where
they played also one song of the new album. All the fans that weren’t in
Norway and that had read some good reviews on Internet, were asked if the
band wanted to reply the thing also in Sölvesborg... and therefore it were:
the splendid title track of new album "START FROM THE DARK" was the
greatest emotion of the evening for me that I was following the concert from
the web-radio... While the first notes
began to exit from the loudspeakers of my PC (for this event I had connected
an amplifier at my PC, holding high the volume...), I do not hide to you that
I really moved to hear a new song of Europe
after all of attended... And I started feeling really that new, beautiful
song... and the day after I was already searching the lyrics : -) Exactly a week after the
SRF, I left from Italy to Stockholm with my friend Viviana to participate at
the meeting with the Band. The international fan Convention was at "Mondo"
of Stockholm. That day I have meet for the first time Elena and Fulvio (it’s
funny… they live about 15 Km of distance from my house and I met them for the
first time just at Stockholm… that’s incredible!!! eheheheheh). There were Ian and Leven
at “Mondo”. Like usual, they have been very available to talk and make photo
with the fans. On the stage to play, instead, there were "the
Eclipse", that for the occasion they called "Seventh Sign" and
they played (very, very good!) the songs of Europe, even the new "Start
from the dark" listened to it only one week before, just at SRF! Another
guest of the evening, (well, a secret guest!) was the likeable Marcel Jacob,
bass-player of “Talisman”, that is Co-author of the beautiful "Scream of
anger". Some time after, on
melodicrock.com, I have found also 6 samples 30' ' of songs from the new
album of Europe: "Got to have faith", "Start from the
dark", "Flames", "Hero", "Wake up call"
and "Spirit of the underdog". Practically I was very, very happy: I
liked very much and I was looking forward to have in my hands the new album.
One of the song I liked very very much had been "Hero", a good
track written by Joey and Norum, dedicated for their big idol: PHIL LYNOTT of
Thin Lizzy, died on 4 January 1986. When "Start From the
Dark" came out also in Italy, to say the truth I had already a copy of
the "Limited Edition" came out only in Sweden and that contained
the video of "Got to have faith", the first single extracted from
the album. But after I have bought the Limited Edition from www.cdon.com, as
soon as I had the news of the new album in Italy, I bought others 2 copies. 1
for me, and 1 to give to my Russian friend, a great fan of the mythical 5
Swedish heroes! : -) On 4 November 2004 my
dream came true: finally I could see for THE FIRST TIME in a wonderful live
concert my big idols always and I was also in the first rows! At the
discotheque "Alcatraz" of Milan there was sold out, that evening,
and all present people (approximately 5.000 persons), was enthusiastic... of
course! ; -) On 10 March 2005, Europe
in Milan again at the Alcatraz, again sold out. Of course I was there! But the only date of 10
March was not enough for me and therefore, the following day, I left with my
friends Elena, Viviana and Fulvio for Pordenone, to follow the concert that
that evening was programmed at the Palazzetto of the italian city and that it
was almost overflow in every order of place. While I write, I’ve just
read on the forum of the Italian fanclub, the news of 2 dates in August of
our favourite band: the first it is confirmed and will be in Bardonecchia
(Torino) on 13 August; the second date is not still sure, but it must be in a
place near Venice in date still to define : -) Anythinging to you, will I be
there? Of course I will be
there! ; -) See
you soon, at next Europe-concert! ; -) |
